ABOUT WAHAKURA WEAVER AOTEAROA
Wahakura Weaver Aotearoa provides hand crafted moenga (beds) for newborns, fashioned from Harakeke. Harakeke (New Zealand Flax) is the plant at the heart of Māori (Tangata Whenua) weaving. Pacific islands have coconut or palm leaves, whereas Māori have been growing and harvesting Harakeke with tikanga (protocols) to ensure the plant lasts many generations.

ABOUT US
Kia ora, my name is Katarina. My passion is weaving Wahakura. I live in Hastings and use local harakeke to weave these beautiful taonga. I have planted my own harakeke and, in a few years, when it is ready to use, I hope to weave only from my own garden.
WE PROVIDE WEAVING WORKSHOPS.
I am avaliable to teach you to weave your own Wahakura by negotiation. You must harvest your own 50 harakeke. We will prepare / clean it together and cut to size at the workshop
